Understanding and controlling the light settings on your Canon camera will transform the photos and videos you take - and capture unmissable moments in all their glory. There are three key things you need to know about – ISO, shutter speed and aperture. That’s all!

ISO is your camera’s sensitivity to light – higher ISO numbers are ideal for low light conditions. High ISOs also add grain to your images for that textured vintage feeling! Lower ISOs are ideal for sunny days and bright rooms. Low ISOs bring out colour richness too!

Shutter speed controls the time your camera’s shutter stays open and how much light it lets in. Quicker shutter speeds let in less light and slower shutter speeds let in more light, so you can easily compensate for how bright or gloomy the light is in every possible situation.

Aperture determines the size of the opening that lets light in and is also referred to as f-stops. Smaller apertures like f/2.8 let in more light, and larger apertures such as f/8 let in less light. This puts you in creative control even when conditions vary, such as cloudy days.
